Sol (Down to the Roots)

from Hello, Disaster by Visc.

about

Sol is a very old song of mine. I think the original was written right after Virtual Friends, which would be around 2012. I never knew what to do with it, but the lyrics have always stuck with me. I never even wrote them down for the first few years -- I just always had them bouncing around my head.

So I had this album pretty much done, but I wanted to end it perfectly. This song has always had many meanings to me, but one of the most prominent is the idea of being content with your place in the world, which is exactly where I am. Though I have a lot of traits I hate, and I wish I was more successful with music, I really am happy just making albums and living life with my friends.

This song seems to sum that up pretty well, so I rerecorded it and threw it on the tail of the album!

lyrics

LYRICS:

I have drifted through the seas
and watched the morning sun
I often dream about the days
and the stream that soon may run

I have climbed a dozen trees
to look across the storm
that brought me here
and still draws near
to remind me of just one

I have laid amongst the leaves
and scattered with the wind
I lie alone in the deep unknown
with the nighttime glistening

I have wandered through the years
and with them I have run
and though my dreams have grown and ceased
the first cant be outdone

I have always roamed
through the great unknown
I will always roam
until I find my home
